  • 8th District Rep. Dr. Kim Schrier was in Wenatchee Saturday and issued 72 commemorative pins to military veterans who served between Nov. 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975 at a ceremony at Veterans Hall. Schrier says this was important because many returning veterans were treated poorly when they returned home. “Veterans came back wounded and they still carry those wounds to this day and felt the disrespect. This thanks from our nation is long overdue.” Schrier called it an honor to have a pinning ceremony allowing her to thank and show respect to veterans. Commander of Wenatchee Valley VFW Post 367 Brad Pieratt, who served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years, says it’s important to thank veterans, many of who were not treated very well when they returned from war. “It’s been a very long process, not only for the VFW, but all veteran organizations in our country that we really take time to honor those folks while they’re still here and receive that thank you they never got.” Congress passed a bill in 2008 that created the commemorative Vietnam Era pin honoring any vets that served between 1955 and 1975.
